“Prana” is a comprovisation score for four instruments that can play wide-ranging, controlled and slow glissandi – e.g. trombones, bowed string instruments, theremins, or voices. In yoga, the term prana is used to describe our relationship to the flow of energy around us. In working with and through prana, yogis attune their being, breath, intention, movement, opening themselves to the reality of this energy. In this piece, too, constant tuning and searching takes the music from one harmony to the next. The four musicians are constantly and intensely on the way towards a possible harmony with each other. This elusive harmony occasionally emerges from the glissandi – but it can never be sustained. The musicians are guided by an evolving generative score which is tuned to their coordinated breathing – the basic time unit of this piece.

Die 6. internationale TENOR-Konferenz (technologies for music notation and representation) wird von Montag, 10. Mai, bis Donnerstag, 13. Mai von der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (HfMT) ausgerichtet. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt wird dabei auf Notation und Repräsentation in Zeiten einer Pandemie gesetzt werden.
